A Girl and Her Dog

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Do you remember the scene in Sex & The City where Carrie arrives in Mexico and looks in the mirror?

Well….after crying for three days over My Farrah Girl…..I could give Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money on who looks worse—thank God for big sunglasses.

My Farrah Girl came into my life when she was 7 weeks old and left today at 12 ½ years.

For a Lab she had a good long life.

But my heart is broken.

My Farrah Girl saw me through some tough times…..

Always by my side….

Always unconditional.

And I took care of her and loved her unconditionally in return.

This morning we said goodbye as a family and had to explain to The Boy that she was going to “doggy heaven” and wouldn’t be back.

He asked where “doggy heaven” was.

I told him up in the clouds.

He asked me how she was going to get there.

I told him I didn’t know.

“She’s going to take an airplane mom.  And there’s going to be a special seat with a paw print on it so she knows where to sit.”

Rest in peace My Farrah Girl…..and thank you for being My Girl.

You will be missed.

Love much,

Hickory Dickory Dock….

A mouse is living in my kitchen.

Behind my stove to be exact.

Ahhhhh the joys of city living.

You know it exists but that doesn’t mean you want to see it.

And see it is exactly what happened last night.

Mr. Mouse or Mousey Mouse (as The Boy calls him) decided to make a full blown appearance while I was cleaning up the dinner dishes.

He’s got some nerve.

But The Boy was thrilled…..

“Can he be my pet? Do we have any cheese to put out?”

J’s reaction was so cute that I almost considered it….ok not really.

I immeidately called the doormen to be put on the exterminator list and had to explain to J that perhaps Mousey Mouse would be happier in the basement with his other mouse friends.

As I was explaining that this mouse was not exactly the same as the mouse in “If You Give a Mouse a Cupcake” —the offending mouse made an encore appearance.

J went wild “get some cheese mom—he wants to saty.”

While I applaud this mouse’s chutzpah……this is not the house for you.

I spent the rest of the night stomping and announcing myself before entering the kitchen.

The exterminator comes tomorrow……..sorry Mousey Mouse….the jig is up.

Love much,

xob

Lunch with the Girls

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

There was a recent comment on An Infertile Blonde that made me remember a moment in my life that I had forgotten about…..

And maybe it will help to share…..

Once upon a time (about 6 years ago) there were three friends.

Two were married.

One was about to get married.

One had a baby.

One was desperately trying.

And one day they met for lunch.

The conversation (as it usually did those days) went right into wedding plans (which were very fun and exciting) and then on to  “are you going to try to get pregnant as soon as you are married?”

I tried to be a part of it.

I tried to be excited.

I just listened and kept eating my lunch.

The unmarried friend said, “I’m a little scared of being pregnant…especially about giving birth.” (Fair)

And they looked at me and asked, “Are you scared of being pregnant?”

Stunned, I replied, “I’m a little more scared of never getting pregnant at this point.”

And that pretty much brought lunch to a close.

I felt terrible….I should have kept my mouth closed but the words were out before I could help it.

To my readers…..your fears are justified…just as mine were….and you will get through this.

But this journey we’re all on leads us in new directions……

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…..

Sometimes they are directions that we never would have found for ourselves.

As I think about my two miracles……

I think how lucky I am that my original plan didn’t work out…..because where would I be without The Boy and The Girl?

And the thing about friends…the really good ones… is that they hang in there with you as you find your way.

I know mine did.

Love much,
